Academic Libraries:
- The Greater Western Library Alliance (formerly Big 12 Plus Libraries Consortium) lists openings in around 30 academic libararies.
- The University Job Bank often includes a number of faculty/staff LIS positions.
- Research and Faculty jobs from AERA - the Education and Research Network.
- Academic 360 (formerly "Jobs in Higher Education") lists open positions in colleges and universities. Click on "Library Science" under both "Faculty" and "Administrative" positions. Also includes links to other job sites.
- Educause aims to "help shape and enable transformational change in higher education through the introduction, use, and management of information resources and technologies in teaching, learning, scholarship, research, and institutional management." This means they often list library/information science positions.
- Jobs in Library Information Management are listed at Higheredjobs.com. Scroll down the page and click on "libraries."
- Insidehighered.com offers a job bank - registration required.
- For a job in a research institution, look at the Association of Research Libraries Career Resources Online Service. Browse by state, region, or job category. You can also list all positions or focus only on entry-level jobs.
- Listings from C&RL News have moved to ALA - scroll down the page.
- Aspiring library school deans and faculty members should visit this page from ALISE.
- The jESSE listserv is for all discussion of higher education issues in librarianship, but is a very good place to find library faculty job postings.
- The Association for Educational Communications and Technology lists instructional positions, including those in library schools.
- Academic Careers Online lists job openings in academia, including for librarians. Pick "library science" from their search options.
Archives/Preservation/Museum Jobs:
Special Librarianship
- Want to work for the government? Go to USA Jobs and try searching the "Information Technology" and "Professional" sections under terms like "librarian" and "information specialist."
- Become a "technical information specialist" for the Department of Defense.
- The SLA Career Services is open to all. Search for positions or post your resume.
Specific Specialties:
- LibraryJobs-STM is a Facebook group whose discussion board includes job postings for Science/Technical/Medical librarians. Must create a Facebook account to view.
- EngLib is a blog for "scitech" librarians. Find job ads down the right-hand column; an RSS feed is also available.
- APRA (Association for Professional Researchers for Advancement) has a jobs page that lists openings in the field of development research.
- For a job in healthcare information and management, see the HIMSS JobMine. No longer members-only!
- For a job in a law library, peruse the AALL jobline listings.
- Medical librarians should examine listings from the MLANet site.
- Music librarians, check out the other MLA and visit the Music
Library Association job placement service.
- ARLIS lists job vacancies for art librarians and "visual resource professionals" at its web site.
- Visual resource professionals can also check out job listings at the Visual Resources Association.
- News Library Job and Internship Openings.
- Theological librarians should look here for position postings from ATLA.
- School media specialists should examine job postings from MAME, which are updated monthly. (And don't forget to check under your state for state school media association listings.) MAME also posts "technology in education" job listings.
- For library and information jobs with the U.S. government, check USAJOBS.
