Description: SummaryDevelop and make available information resources and databases for the DRC, NED, CIMA and World Movement web sites. Design and conduct training on library and Internet research resources for NED staff, fellows, grantees, and other democracy researchers and activists. The position reports to the Director of the Democracy Resource Center (DRC).
Principal Duties:
- Serve as the project manager/coordinator for the migration to Inmagic's Genie integrated library system and Presto Social Library system, and assume duties as system administrator for the implemented software.
- Administer knowledge management practices, participate in the initiative to upgrade and expand the intranet and coordinate the staff intranet, and serve as the liaison and backup to the Web Coordinator on behalf of the Democracy Resource Center (DRC).
- Utilize Presto Social Library system to distribute the DRC Research Bulletin, the DRC's monthly e-newsletter, and assist in developing content for other daily news feeds (Democracy Today), DRC Blog posts, and web resources (e.g., for the Network of Democracy Research Institutes, Democracy Digest, etc.).
- Provide guidance and instruction for staff, fellows, World Movement for Democracy participants, and outside groups on using online and Web 2.0 resources, such as blogs and RSS feeds, and keep abreast of the latest trends in librarianship and virtual reference environments including new Web 2.0 technology and social media.
- Work with the DRC staff on digitization projects to provide online access to NDRI, NED grantee, and other publications.
- Assume the duties of the Director of the Democracy Resource Center in his absence, and provide backup coverage for DRC staff (reference, NEXIS searches).
Knowledge and Skill Level:The position requires a Master's degree in Library Science (MLS), at least 5 years of library experience and a working knowledge of Inmagic products (Presto, Genie, DBTextworks), and DreamWeaver. A background or experience in international affairs, particularly in democratic development, is highly preferred. Familiarity with SQL is desirable. Knowledge of knowledge management practices, systems administration, JavaScript, XML and HTML, and CSS, and Web 2.0 is expected. Demonstrated knowledge of database development and web interface strategies is expected.
