James Madison University Libraries seeks an innovative, service-oriented leader for the position of Director of Rose Library Services.  Rose Library, a stunning facility opened in 2008, is home to the science, technology, and health sciences collections.

 Responsibilities:

The Director provides leadership for the planning, implementation, promotion, and assessment of Rose Library services and programs. Oversees all aspects of library services including information desk, access services, learning commons partnerships, outreach, liaison librarians, and building operations.  Develops library programs targeted to support the science, technology, and health departments and collaborates with colleagues across the libraries to develop integrated, innovative library services that support teaching and learning across the curriculum. Oversees the dynamic Rose Library team including five librarians, six full-time staff, plus part-time and student staff.  Serves as a liaison librarian, providing library instruction, collection management, and research services for an allied health program. The director also collaborates in the overall planning and management of the JMU Libraries and serves on the Libraries & Educational Technologies Management Council. Reports to the Associate Dean for Public Services.

Qualifications:

Required: ALA-Accredited MLS. Significant academic library experience including experience managing library services and supervising staff. Knowledge of library service best practices, current issues, and trends. Commitment to providing excellent user-centered services. Experience providing instruction, research, or liaison services.  Collection development experience. Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, and project management skills. Ability to supervise, guide, and motivate staff. Ability to lead creatively and collaboratively in a dynamic environment.  Academic background or experience in a science, technology, or health-related discipline preferred. Faculty status requires potential to meet standards for tenure and promotion.

Salary and Benefits:

Salary commensurate with experience.  Tenure-track faculty position with excellent benefits including 20 days of vacation and a choice of retirement plans.
