ASSISTANT PROFESSOR The University of Akron seeks motivated, collegial library professionals for two tenure-track positions at the rank of Assistant Professor. The successful candidates will be required to: have an MLS/MLIS from an ALA accredited school; have excellent oral and written communication skills; have the ability to work well with others and to provide leadership within the diverse settings of a complex university organization; have a strong service ethic and demonstrated appreciation for and effectiveness with a diverse student body. The successful candidates will be required to meet the University of Akron Libraries criteria for promotion and tenure which include conducting research, teaching, participating on library and university committees, and serving in professional organizations. Undergraduate Outreach Librarian #7666 Under the direction of the Head of Research & Learning Services, coordinates the University Libraries information literacy program related to general education (http://www.uakron.edu/provost/communication/gen-ed.dot). Also provides information literacy instruction and library orientation through the New Student Orientation program, as well as partnerships with campus organizations and programs including Adult Focus, Military Services, and Undergraduate Student Government. Provides in-person orientations and course-integrated instruction to foster undergraduate information literacy skills. Develops student-focused programming in University Libraries in partnership with campus and community stakeholders. Develops Web-based content for undergraduate students across the curriculum. Provides reference service at the User Support Service Desk, including occasional evening and weekend hours. Develops collections in subjects as assigned. Required Qualifications An MLS/MLIS arm an ALA accredited school, educational background in information literacy instruction or program development, or professional experience in an academic library providing information literacy instruction to undergraduates Demonstrated knowledge of electronic resources for research and reference services Demonstrated interpersonal and organizational skills Preferred Qualifications Experience creating and maintaining student-focused Web-based content Completion of the ACRL Immersion Teacher Track program Second master's degree Demonstrated knowledge of best practices in undergraduate outreach and programming Experience providing instruction or support in Learning Management Systems in general and Springboard/Desire 2Learn in particular Instructional Design Librarian # 7667 Under the direction of the Head of Research & Learning Services, partners with subject librarians to develop learning objects to be used in all parts of the University Libraries information literacy program including Web-based tutorials, video and audio content for inclusion in the campus Learning Management System (Springboard/Desire2Learn), and synchronous methods for embedding information literacy in Web-based courses. Coordinates professional development for subject librarians related to pedagogy, technology integration, and best practices for information literacy instruction. Provides reference service at the User Support Service Desk, including occasional evening and weekend hours. Develops collections in subjects as assigned.
