The Beloit Public Library (BPL) seeks a dynamic library director who will make a commitment to a vital community that has a strong sense of public service, values its educational institutions and is willing to invest in itself. The Beloit Public Library serves a diverse community of 37,000 from a 54,000 sq ft. building constructed in 2009. Robust library support provided $1.5M in private funding for the project. The director of the Beloit Public Library must be a powerful advocate for the library, able to work successfully with elected officials, community leaders and stakeholders. The successful candidate will excel at communicating effectively, building partnerships, empowering staff and collaborating with other area agencies; a librarian who articulates, supports and promotes the library’s mission to provide a complete spectrum of information to the community through a variety of materials, programs, appropriate technology, and a well-trained staff. The Library also requires a strong operational manager who is financially astute and understands today’s economic realities. The Beloit Public Library ahs a staff of 50 employees, collection of over 154800 items and a 2012 operating budget of approximately $2,150,000. The city of Beloit, conveniently located near Madison, Milwaukee and Chicago, fosters a culture of learning through its historic downtown, public art, symphony orchestra and many museums. Beloit is home to Beloit College, the oldest private college in Wisconsin. Minimum Qualifications: MLS from an ALA accredited library education program, plus 7 years professional library experience (preferably at public libraries) with demonstrated management ability in administration, budgeting, planning and supervision.
