Job Summary: The Technical Services and Special Collections Coordinator is responsible for the oversight of library technical services, including cataloging, physical processing, Integrated Library System (ILS) operation, and the periodical collection. In addition, the Technical Services and Special Collections Coordinator facilitates access to Special Collections and Archives and assists the Director of Library and Archives with ongoing and future archives projects.
Essential Responsibilities:
Cataloging:
* Copy catalogs monographs, serials and materials in non-book formats, including CDs, DVDs, LPs, CD-ROMs, audiocassettes and videocassettes.
* When appropriate, assists in creating original full level bibliographic records in accordance with current national cataloging standards.
* Oversees copy cataloging by work studies.
Physical Processing:
* Oversees the physical processing of library materials.
* Supervises processing work studies.
* Oversees book repair.
Maintain hosted Koha open-source ILS:
* Work closely with host vendor to resolve problems or implement new features.
* Configure policy settings to achieve desired functionality.
Periodicals Management:
* Works with the Administrative Coordinator to maintain records for article databases and holdings of print periodicals.
* Manages link resolvers and other electronic resource enhancements.
Coordinate access to archival and special collections:
* Prioritize requests for access according to university policy and available library resources.
* Work closely with partner institutions and organizations to reduce barriers to access.
* Arranges and describes special collections and archival materials, including processing theses.
* Creates finding aids and subject guides as needed, in both print and electronic formats.
Secondary Responsibilities:
* Participates in general reference service, including possible evening and weekend rotation, and ongoing training.
* Plans, develops, and implements various special projects as needed or assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
* Bachelor’s degree and 1 or more years copy cataloging experience.
* Customer service experience.
* Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and Power Point.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Original cataloging experience.
* Experience working in an academic library.
* Experience with Koha open source ILS.
* Experience with CONTENTdm digital collection management software.
* Special collections and/or archives experience.
* Knowledge of Naropa University’s history and mission as it relates to the institutional archives.
