Systems/Systems Librarian
(4 months beginning February, 2013)
Job Summary:
This is a tenure track faculty position and will be hired at
the rank of Assistant Professor.
Under the administrative review of the Director of the Library, this
librarian has responsibility for the maintenance of turnkey library systems
operations, evaluation and implementation of new technological services, serves
as liaison to vendors, and collaborates with campus and off campus
constituencies. All library
faculty serve as liaison to a number of disciplines, provides information
literacy instruction, and monitors collection development in those areas. This position has all responsibilities
associated with faculty rank and tenure.
Duties and
Responsibilities:
- Sustains
library systems and supervises library systems staff.
- Contributes
to the development and implementation of Systems policies and procedures.
- Prepares
reports as needed, and analyzes system/user interaction and statistics.
- Oversees
the daily operation of Innovative Interfaces, Inc. integrated library
system in cooperation with their Public Library, including but not limited
to maintenance, installation, training, and upgrades of this turnkey
operation.
- Manages
and updates the library web site including coordinating and implementing
redesign projects with library faculty/staff and the college webmaster.
- Participates
in training library faculty/staff in use of new and updated
software/hardware.
- Participates
in campus wide information technology initiatives.
- Works
with the Systems Team to apply information technologies for the library’s
services and operations by assessing and responding to the needs of
faculty/staff and patrons, identifying options to meets these needs, and
working with the appropriate groups to meet these needs.
- Coordinates
system administration and maintenance of ContentDM digital asset
management, EBSCO’s integrated search, and Serials Solutions 360link.
- Participates
in the planning of digital initiatives.
- Evaluates
current and emerging technology trends for the library.
- Represents
the Library at local, regional, and national meetings, and conferences.
- Collaborates
with other libraries locally, regionally, and nationally on initiatives
related to library information technologies and applications.
Library
Faculty Responsibilities
- Teaches
course-related/integrated library instruction classes for assigned subject
areas, as well as high-enrollment introductory classes.
- Participates
in the design and development of the library’s course-integrated
instruction program in collaboration with the Information Literacy
Librarian.
- Produces
and updates library instructional aids, including resources pages on the
library web site, in designated subject areas.
- Instructs
patrons in locating and using the resources and services of the
library.
- Participates
in reference service.
- Selects
and evaluates library material in liaison subject areas in collaboration
with library and discipline faculty and the Head of Collection
Development.
- Engages
in professional development and scholarly activities.
- Participates
in library and campus-wide committees and meetings.
- Supervises
student staff when applicable.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Master's
degree in library science from an ALA-accredited institution.
- Work
with library automated systems software and operation.
- Knowledge
of library operations and its service requirements.
- Ability
to work both independently and collegially in a rapidly changing
environment.
- Excellent
organizational, problem solving, negotiating, interpersonal and
communication skills.
- Experience
in teaching and/or library instruction and a commitment to the ideals of
information literacy.
Desired:
- Undergraduate
degree in a field supportive of library systems work.
- Familiarity
with telecommunications, local area networks, PC-based applications
software, print management, and Web formats,
- Experience
with Innovative Interfaces library software, ILLIAD, ContentDM, and MARC
formats.
- Demonstrated
ability to work in a mixed hardware/software environment.
- Supervisory
experience.
- Additional
advanced degree in subject area or Library Systems educational
experiences.
- Evidence
of professional involvement.
