Job Description:
Reporting to the Dean of University Libraries, the Web and Digital Services Specialist's primary responsibility is to develop and maintain the Library's website in collaboration with the librarians and Marketing & Communications staff. The Specialist will select, implement, and assess library digital applications that are related to the delivery of library services. In addition, the Specialist will oversee and ensure the delivery of student multimedia and course-related resource support in collaboration with the departments of Instructional Design, Information Technology, and Media Services.
Essential functions of the position include but are not limited to:
1. Web Services --
a. Develop and maintain a dynamic library website
b. Identify and implement initiatives to maximize effective use of web-based resources
c. Serve as the key resources agent for the library's Digital Content Management Work Group.
2. Multimedia Services --
a. Guide the selection, implementation, and assessment of library digital applications
b. Collaborate with the departments of Instructional Design and Media Services to provide faculty, staff, and student multimedia and course-related resources in support of the curriculum
c. Manage the digital asset management system and train faculty and staff on its use.
3. Design and Marketing --
a. Design and develop web-based materials for marketing library resources, exhibits, and special projects
b. Assist faculty with digital scholarship projects.
In addition, this position will assist with web-related functions of the digital repository, the University Archives, and other library initiatives while keeping current with new and emerging technologies.
Requirements:
A Bachelor's degree in Web Design/Development, Multi-Media Design, or a related field is required as well as 3-5 years of experience to include the building and/or integration of web applications and content management systems. Candidates must have advanced proficiency with web management software and programming including Drupal, MYSQL, XML, and Javascript. One to three years of supervisory experience is required. A Master's degree in Web Design, Multi-Media Design, or a related field is preferred. Familiarity with higher education and the academic library environment and associated systems is a plus.
At the University's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be excepted where the candidate can demonstrate, to the satisfaction of the University, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.
