This position is part of Development and Institute Relations' (DIR) Advancement Services unit under the AVP of Advancement Services. Advancement Services is comprised of Research and Prospect Management, Donor Services, Information Technology Systems and Services, and Administration and Finance.

Job Duties:

• Respond in a timely manner to inquiries about prospects utilizing paid subscriptions and standard public information sources through advanced searching techniques.
  
• Populate DIR's database with current information on prospect careers, financial assets, interests, relationships, affiliations and potential for philanthropic support.
• Analyze individual wealth indicators, including salary, stock, real estate and other assets, to determine overall financial capacity and solicitation potential.
• Examine appropriate SEC information, such as the IPO filing process, information on executive compensation, and corporate financial reports. 
  
• Interpret liquidity events and their relevance to solicitation strategies and timing.
• Compose written communications that highlight key areas of prospect information.
• Perform data mining and operate analytical tools as needed.
• Expand the prospect and donor pool for targeted priority areas at Caltech.
• Help plan, coordinate, and manage departmental projects including, but not limited to preparing general prospect lists, validating electronic screenings, and refreshing old data.
  
• Review daily media alerts on key prospects and post relevant stories.
  
• Participate in educational and prospect review meetings for development staff.
  
• Be aware of Caltech activities and priorities, and the ability to suggest opportunities for beneficial prospect involvement.
  
• Collaborate with other members of DIR and the Institute to accomplish our mission.
  
• Perform special research projects and other duties as assigned by Advancement Services leadership. 
• Follow and help develop 'best practices' in prospect research for Caltech.
  

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent (equivalent experience is equal to a High School Diploma or GED certificate and 4 years relevant experience or AA degree and 2 years relevant experience)
  
• 1+ years related work experience
  
• Strong sense of curiosity
  
• Advanced researching skills
• Database proficiency with MS word, Excel, Access, and other database software's is required
  
• Ability to deal with confidential matters with tact and sensitivity
  
• Demonstrated ability to work independently, set priorities, juggle tasks as needed, and complete projects within specified timeframes amidst a fast paced work environment
  
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate within a team to complete an overarching goal 
• Excellent written communication skills to prepare detailed analytical profiles for use by institution leadership
