Job Description:

The American University in Cairo Libraries and Learning Technologies (LLT) seeks a dynamic and innovative individual with proven leadership and management skills to lead, plan, and supervise the Main Library’s service-oriented, customer-centered, highly digital research and  information services department and Learning Commons.

Working closely with and reporting to the Director of Public Services, the Head of Research and  Information Services identifies, evaluates and implements appropriate emerging information  technologies that effectively enhance and advance the teaching and research missions of the  University. The Head of RIS fosters an environment that promotes the implementation of new  approaches to instructional and reference services for the AUC community and external users.  The Head of RIS coordinates the work of library staff and student assistants who are responsible for  providing research and reference services. The Head of RIS coordinates the reference collection  management in collaboration with assigned liaisons and serves as library liaison to various  academic programs. The incumbent oversees the RIS web content with other library units to  maximize delivery of library services.
 

Requirements:

The candidate must have an ALA-accredited MLS, or international equivalent. A minimum of 3-5 years experience in an academic library Reference department, including 2 years supervisory experience. Demonstrated experience in providing high quality traditional and digital reference services. Demonstrated experience in planning, implementing and assessing Reference services. A second Master’s degree, working knowledge of other languages, and experience in a multicultural environment are highly desirable but not mandatory.

This is a Faculty appointment at the rank of Instructor.

The position will remain open until filled. Preferred starting date is September 1, 2013.
