Purpose of Position  The Library Assistant II provides circulation service at the counter for library materials, media equipment, reserves and interlibrary loan. LA II is responsible for providing service in the Central Library Sunday through Thursday evenings. Performs support functions on a regular basis.

Essential Functions  Manages activities at the service counter during overnight operation of the Central Library. Provides circulation, reserve services and directional assistance. Monitors entrance for security control, interacts with security guard and physical plant staff. Schedules, hires, trains, and evaluates student employees that work the service counter. Responsible for maintaining organization and stocking of department supply cabinet and service desk counter area. Handles TexShare issues involving both our patrons and patrons from other libraries. Troubleshoots second floor printing problems when the Reference Desk is closed. Processes Interlibrary Loan items for return to the lending library.

Marginal/Incidental functions  May be asked to work a different night time shift in case of staff absences or vacancies. Serves as backup to the Overnight Services Group Leader in their absence. Other functions as assigned.

Required qualifications  High school graduation or equivalent and 3 years related experience, 1 year of which must be at least at the Library Assistant I level. Bachelor's degree substitutes for 2 years of required experience. Must have customer service experience. Preferred Qualifications  Bachelor's degree. 2 years of work experience in a library environment. Strong interpersonal skills, problem resolution skills and commitment to superior customer service. Able to work independently and support a team environment. Adequate knowledge of Windows Operating System and file management, Microsoft Outlook, and Microsoft Office suites. Familiar with the library online catalog and library resources.

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
