I am interested in applying for a position with a local career college. It is a fairly well-known institution and has many branches all over the world. While I'm interested in the work, I am also concerned about the potential stigma it might create if and when I look for another position. I know that academic faculty at for-profit institutions are frequently looked down upon by professors in traditional non-profit colleges. Do hiring managers place a stigma on librarians for career colleges? Are there any more barriers to switching fields than there are for "normal" librarians (for example, applying for public librarian positions after working as an academic librarian in a state school)? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

I might apply for a similar position, and I have the same concerns about the potential stigma. I am little concerned about how career colleges treat education entirely as a business. I'm not naive enough to think that universities are not out to bring in money, but career colleges seem to be focused solely on money and less about the kind of students they are turning out.
