I just had a phone interview. One of the things they asked me to send them is a website I have created. I created a website in graduate school, but the school has removed it (probably because I am no longer a student). I have a blog, but it is not professional in nature. It is also not created by me in the sense that I just write the posts, add pictures, and links. I have make some changes to the style of the website, such as color and font type. I am not sure what I should do. I have taken a class on web design. What do you think I should do? This is just one of three things they asked me to send to them during the interview. I had no idea they would ask for something like that and I didn't want to tell them no since I wasn't sure if the website I made in graduate school was still up. Please give me your advice. Thanks!

Any requirements of a hiring committee that are not clear or you are unsure, you should ask for clarification. Sometimes the hoops you must jump through in the hiring process are to judge your honesty, your ability to ask questions, or sometimes your ability to be innovative. While I think many libraries would consider a blog a website, I would not personally submit something so personal.

Brian,
Thank you. I will send them their other requirements and ask about the website.
I do have the option of changing the "unprofessional" posts from my blog and then giving them the website address. I don't have a problem doing this. I just think if I do submit it I will be upfront about my contribution to the blog. I can also tell them that I did take a web design class in graduate school.

If you took a web design class, did you keep any of the projects from that class, or keep the code, that you can repost elsewhere to get something up quickly? Or do you have a resume portfolio site you can point them to?
