I currently work as an admin assistant in a university academic department. I will be graduating in May 2010 with my MLS and am worried that when I do I won't be able to find a job due to not having any library experience. I hope to do an internship next fall at a community college but even that is a stretch since I work 40 hours a week.

Any suggestions on how I can get into community college/academic librarianship without any experience?
Thanks

If a job ad calls for experience, you have no options. You can try to "sell" your previous experience but it might not matter to the hiring organization.

If you are worried about not getting an entry-level position because others will have more experience, you have two options. First, find ways to get experience such as a practicum, internship, volunteering, part-time job, involvement in professional associations, etc. Your other option is to learn how to sell your your unique skills and experiences so they place you at an advantage against other candidates.
