I've now heard of new hiring freezes at a few academic libraries, including the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill University Libraries (as reported by a friend who works there).

Libgig.com has a reported on a hiring freeze at Cal State which "presumably limits growth and hiring plans at libraries" (though this is undated).

Does your library have a hiring freeze? Have you heard of hiring freezes at other libraries? If so, please post the name of the library here.

This is intended to help folks get an idea of what's happening in the job market for librarians right now. Thanks.

I just heard from a librarian at Winston Salem State University in North Carolina that their entire university has a hiring freeze as well.

And the Chronicle of Higher Ed is reporting that the entire University of Missouri system (with four campuses) has a hiring freeze.

And here's a chart in the Chronicle with information (dated from late November) on which campuses have enacted freezes.

I've actually had a couple of people email recently to pull job ads off LISjobs.com because a hiring freeze has gone into effect since they were posted. The economy's hitting everyone...

A friend told me that Florida State has had a hiring freeze in effect for over a year.
