Hi, I am new here. I have an interview tomorrow @ a Middle School for a TL (Teacher Librarian) position. I am excited, but very nervous. I have about 10 years experience teaching, working with kids. I have my elementary teaching credential. However, I am newly enrolled in a Library credential program, and I feel that I hardly know anything about this profession! Anxious

Other than my love of learning and teaching kids how to become active learners, I am nervous about my lack of experience. I'm interviewing with the principal and assistant principal. Any words of wisdom, advice? Think

Hi!

I hope your interview went well, sorry I didn't see this post until today. Let me know how it went.

I'm guessing you were surprised by how welcoming they were to your having been a teacher. I have a feeling (I'm just generalizing here keep in mind) that they value your teaching over any lack of experience you have in the library world. I am in my student teaching right now to become a school librarian. I worked as a young adult public librarian for almost 9 years, but found that because I lacked my teaching degree I was not considered. This might have been due to our state, or my area.

In any case, I'm so glad to hear you are in a library program. It will give you invaluable experience, esp. if you get the job your interviewed for. It will be great to be taking the classes and then be able to apply it right away.

Anyway, just wanted to wish you the best as you start off in this profession. And know that you are not alone!
