OKAY, so i am hoping someone out there can help me with some questions. I am considering applying to grad schools for my MLIS. But, I really do not know what my acceptance chances are. I tried googling average gpas and GRE scores (and was successful with some schools) but for the most part I pretty came up with zip.
So, advice. what is a good GRE score, what is a competitive GRE score??
I currently attend Ucla and barely have a 3.1 gpa. :( I am planning on taking my GREs this year. any advice??

It may vary widely from school to school... I'm really not sure. Do you have a particular school in mind?
I got my degree from Kent State University in Ohio and I didn't have to take the GRE at all. I'm sure they probably had a GPA requirement of some sort... maybe a 3.0? I'm not sure what other schools are like.

Make sure you get in a habit of getting enough hours of sleep the few nights before you take the GRE. I remember that test, and it was challenging. When I took it, my roommates had thrown a raging party the night before I took it, and I ended up sleeping at someone else's house the night before the test. They do have study aids for the GRE, and I suggest you take advantage of them if possible.

Yes, do you have a particular school in mind?
At one time, there were LIS schools taking nearly anyone who applied ... but with fewer schools one can only hope they are being more selective. It doesn't hurt to ask!

Where might you want to attend school? That would be a big one.
Also, for GREs--I don't know if they are only giving the test online, but I'd recommend taking the exam on paper. When I took the online exam, oh about 6 1/2 years ago, I found it vexing that I could not go back and change an answer--as I could with a paper exam.

I took the GRE in 2004 and it was the CAT version (as I think that is the only version now) and the thing that worked best for me (as I got an 1150) was taking the test materials given to me by the GRE (very similar to the actual test). And I also took several timed tests on software that I purchased. I would say to spend quite a bit of time preparing if you feel you need it after taking some prep tests. I know my program at Florida State University required the GRE (and the minimum score was 1000), but I have heard from many others that they did not have to take the GRE (at a school in PA I think). Practice, practice, and practice some more. That is my best advice :) Good luck! Jewels
