Hi, everyone - first-time poster here.
I'm applying for a position at an academic library. The job posting asks for a statement of library instruction philosophy included in the cover letter. When I include that plus all my usual cover letter stuff (my qualifications, why I'm interested in the position), my cover letter is a page and a half long. Should I try to cut it down to one page? For some reason, I get the feeling that academic libraries might be more open to longer cover letters than other environments, but I thought I would check and see if going over a page would work against me.
Thanks!

Cover letter length is based on covering everything you mentioned. I have been on many search committees in the academic environment, and seen many letters that took 1.5 pages.

Thanks for your quick response. You have reassured me. I won't worry about cutting the length of my letter.

A page and one-half is fine for a cover letter, as long as you are saying what needs to be said. And I would say, if the library asks for a statement about your philosophy about "X" then they know they will receive letters that long. There are libraries that ask for separate statements of philosophy, as well as several additional questions about experience and judgment/decisions, which means you end up sending about 10 pages.
