I'm just out of library school and looking for a job. I do occasional web design on the side. If prospective employers go to my site and see this (ex--a portfolio, listing fees, etc.), will they consider it something that takes my attention away from my job and be less inclined to hire me? Or will it add to my skill set?

Running your own business and demonstrating web skills is never a negative.

Thank you for your reply. I was concerned that it might be considered a distraction from full-time work if I were to be hired.

Any web design skills you can demonstrate and have confidence in are always a plus! Take pride in these skills, they require much patience, and that level of competence in technology will carry over into other aspects of your work.

Most employers will not be concerned with what you do on your own time, unless it starts harming the hours you are expected to work. I just finished my 3rd year since finishing my MLIS and I have always had some part-time jobs on the side.
