Do any of you check out USAjobs.gov? I discovered that I'm eligible to be reinstated for federal service, so I've been watching the site. I've applied for the Air Force, since Nellis AFB is right up the road.

While researching, I found this great article Paths to Becoming an Army Librarian http://www.lisjobs.com/newsletter/archives/sept03emetz.htm (on LISjobs.com, natch). I've been trying to contact the author, without any luck.

Although it is a complicated and time consuming process, the Air Force and the Navy both are recruiting for librarians all across the country and around the world. It is a really interesting idea. What do you think?

i was thinking about that. but i wasnt too sure about it. i've looked at the webiste a bit for USA jobs but its tricking since im in IL. it was just very confusing how they laid out the job information, not very clear. or maybe it was wording or im a total blond.

i heard if u are in a gov't job, you are pretty set. for life. :) pretty steady stuff. and okay pay, etc. So I dont know much. why are they recruiting librairns all across the country/world? I gave up after awhile b/c it wasnt what I'd wanted, but maybe I should look at it again....

There is a great article by an Army civilian librarian here. I got a lot out of it. The steadiness was exactly the trouble with federal service when I was young.....It seemed like you'd have to burn down the place to get fired. But I am so interested in this. Think of how important it is for servicemen/women and especially their families to have those resources....
