ALA for job seekers

Would like some advice on ALA for mid-career job seekers. I've always gone to SLA rather than ALA, but as I want to move into academic or perhaps public libraries I am thinking of going to ALA this year. Partly this is just to begin to educate myself about the practicalities of life outside special libraries, but I would also hope to do some job hunting.

Wuld this be a sensible investment?

It is a good investment, if you take advantage of everything offered.

Look into all the NMRT events. Take advantage of the Resume Review. Have copies of resumes with you to hand out. Talk to vendors as they know everything - who is hiring, who to work for, libraries struggling, etc.

Talk to as many people as you can before you go to see what specific events they recommend.

Thanks, Brian, for those great suggestions. I have so much to learn about job seeking. You've answered both questions I've posted to this list, and I really appreciate the time and thought you've put into doing so.
