I have been working at a community college as an Intern for a year and a half. I am soon going to graduate with an MLS, the issues I have seen is alarming or prevalent. The fact that non-MLS full time professional are consider support staff is all right, but to treat older age part time student aids, as if they beneath them, and as if they were children is not really okay. There is an arrogance of entitlement and I just wonder if that is common in other libraries out there?

Can you provide more details of what you have seen? Hierarchically, the students aids are beneath the full time staff, so I expect you have specific examples of what you mean by "beneath them".

Meaning... in age... people who are considered older, but then have to find jobs at libraries... but then get treating like children, but workers younger than them. I just don't know what to say about this...so I was passing along opinions of what I observed.

Students are often treated differently than staff or faculty.

Unfortunately, some people do use the MLS as an excuse to demean non-degreed library workers. This isn't unique to librarianship, though -- nor is it a given in all libraries. You may just be in an unhealthy work environment, if so, learn what you can from your internship, and move on.
