Hi,
I just got my LIS degree in May and I'm looking for jobs in academic libraries in Florida. I have a PhD from an Ivy university that I earned 12 years ago. Unfortunately I was unable to find a teaching job in my field back then and have had an assortment of jobs since then, most of which (pizza delivery, carpentry, housecleaning, personal chef) I don't bother mentioning on resumes.
Are search committees just going to think I'm a loser because I couldn't find an academic teaching job? Or are they going to think I'm a pretentious dilettante who probably has a working husband? (Neither is true.) Or what? I know some places are contractually bound to pay me more because of my doctorate and budgets are tight. I've applied for a couple of local jobs and they haven't even bothered to send me rejection letters.
I have great references, worked for nine months as a graduate assistant at the reference desk at the university I attended for my LIS, did another internship in a special library, and volunteer at my local public library.
Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
