I just left Colorado last year. I got my MLS at the University of Denver. That's the first thing that makes it tough, at least on the Front Range. Competition is pretty fierce. It's such a great place to live, people are reluctant to leave. Myself, I'm regretting leaving. I had a position at a public library that was called "assistant librarian", which was NOT a professional position. You could probably get a non-professional position in a little longer than you want. A professional position is really tough. The Western Slope might be better. Here's a link to the state library jobline:
http://www.libraryjobline.org/index.php The MPLA is a good resource, too.
A friend and fellow grad had 7 years para experience and has had a difficult time getting a professional job. She's a very good librarian and active in CAL, etc. I sometimes (and I've seen this discussed on NewLib list) there is a roadblock for people with this combination to get a professional job. I don't get it; but I've seen it here in Nevada as well.
The SLA there is very active. Good luck and keep in touch, I'd like to see how it goes for you. Feel free to email me off list
