What you are saying regarding not relocating is all well and good if you live somewhere where there are jobs. When I finished school, I yearned to be near family and the wilderness, a lush place with trees and hiking trails. Problem is the region where I wanted to be had few jobs. Still, it was a huge desire so I took a risk, moving across the country after graduation and basing my job seach out of the community where my family lives.

I had gained a lot of library experience while in school, but the region was so competitive that when I'd get interviews I'd be one of 200 people who applied for that job. I was always, at that time, the least experienced person who was interviewed. Meanwhile, I was running out of savings and was unable to find alternative work, not even outside of the library field. No one wanted to hire me even for non professional jobs, for which there was plenty of competition, too. It broke my heart, but after six months I realized that if I was going to get a job and support myself, I was going to have to relocate. So, I applied to less competitive regions and had a job one month later. It's an excellent job, a supervisory position, in which I'm gaining a great deal of experience. It's in a location that I very much dislike, but I consider this part of due paying. My plan is to to get back to where I want to live. I've seen a number of people stubborn about the idea of relocation who never land that first job.
